2/13: CTL & AcTech Event: Hands-on AI Tool Design

Friday, February 13
3–4:30 p.m.
Faculty Center

Tools like ChatGPT are presented as neutral, but they are designed in ways that explicitly shape how they are used and the content they generate. There are assumptions baked in at every step of their creation that influence the ultimate product. What would it look like if these tools were designed with specific scholarly questions, methodologies, and contexts in mind? How might that support learning, research, and discovery?

In this workshop, we'll look at examples of alternate forms that these tools might take. Then we'll engage in some hands-on speculative design work together, thinking about how these tools might work if they were created with us in mind. (Optional pre-reading: A Treatise on AI Chatbots Undermining the Enlightenment)
