An increased awareness of the importance in nutrition in maintaining health and managing chronic diseases has contributed to a strong job market for those with expertise in nutrition. The B.S. in Health Sciences with a concentration in Nutrition prepares students to enter M.S. programs in nutrition fields, and a variety of local internship opportunities allow students to gain hands-on experience during their studies at MCLA.
A variety of internship opportunities are available, both on campus and in the surrounding community, giving students invaluable hands-on experience in the field of nutrition. Off-campus internship partners include The Nutrition Center, Community Health Programs, and the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition.
A faculty advisor will meet with each student at least once per semester. Information about pre-requisites for graduate nutrition programs, specific internships, research opportunities, upcoming courses, and other topics is provided to enrolled students on the Biology Department’s Canvas page. Students will also be connected to alumni mentor(s) in the field of nutrition.
Strong students who have met the requirements outlined in the articulation agreement are currently guaranteed admission to the M.S. in Applied Nutrition program or the M.S. in Nutrition & Dietetics program at the Sage Colleges in Albany, NY.
MCLA graduates have completed and are enrolled in graduate programs in nutritional fields.
