Why Add a Psychology Minor?
The Psychology Minor enables students to acquire a fundamental understanding of complex human behavior while developing research, analytical, and critical thinking skills that complement any major. By combining research methods with upper-level psychology electives, students gain insight into how people think, behave, and interact across organizational, educational, clinical, and social settings.
Psi Chi: International Psychology Honor Society
Eligible Psychology minors may join MCLA's chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. Members gain access to scholarships, research grants, awards, leadership opportunities, and national service projects.
Regional Mental Health & Social Service Internships
Psychology minors may pursue internships administered jointly by the Psychology and Sociology, Anthropology & Social Work departments. Eligible students gain supervised experience with organizations such as the Brien Center, Elizabeth Freeman Center, Early Intervention Program, Twin Valley School District, and United Counseling Services, along with schools, community agencies, and other human service organizations.
Psychology Club & Undergraduate Research Conference
Psychology Club members take part in weekly discussions, field trips, guest speakers, luncheons, and social events. Psychology students also have opportunities to collaborate with faculty on research and present their work through MCLA’s undergraduate research programs and conferences.
Psychology Minor Requirements
The Psychology Minor requires 23 credits. Students complete the following coursework:
- PSYC 100: Introduction to Psychology
- PSYC 290: Psychological Research and Statistics I
- PSYC 291: Psychological Research and Statistics II
Two of the following: - PSYC 210: Development Across the Lifespan
- or PSYC 208: Applied Developmental Psychology
- or PSYC 208H: Applied Developmental Psychology
- PSYC 230: Social Psychology
- PSYC 270: Abnormal Psychology
- Two additional Psychology courses at the 300 level or above
