I am a cultural historian of the modern U.S., specializing in turn-of-the-century America and the intersection between popular culture and national foreign policy. My current manuscript, 'When the Bestial War Shall Rule No More': D.W. Griffith, World War I, and the Antiwar War Film, examines the critical role American cinema has played in shaping Americans' understanding of and relationship to modern war throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

In the classroom, I focus on prompting students to grapple with the ways in which Americans have historically used commercial media to engage with the most pressing and consequential issues of their time.
